About VCU

Our History

Valley Credit Union was originally chartered as Sheffield-Tuscumbia Credit Union. On January 19, 1956, eight employees of Sheffield and Tuscumbia Board of Education petitioned the state of Alabama for a charter to provide their employees with a convenient way to save and borrow.  Today Valley has grown from 22 members in their first month to over 5,500 members strong serving those who live, work, worship, or attend school in six Alabama counties. 

Highlights

1958 - Colbert County and Muscle Shoals City Schools were added to our Charter

1983- Sheffield Tuscumbia Credit Union became Tennessee Valley Credit Union

1986 - The credit union name was changed to Valley Credit Union

1997 - Valley Credit Union merged with Robbins Credit Union including Robbins LLC and Marley Flexco employees in our charter. The Russellville branch also opened.

2003 - We were granted a community charter to serve 6 Alabama counties.

2004-2014 - We opened four additional branch offices in Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Cherokee, and Florence.

2018-2020 - The VCU annex was remodeled and became the conference room for the Board of Directors.
